Caseworker and Supervisor Training Mandates

 

Caseworker Training 
Requirements
bullet90 hours of Core 
(1st year)
bullet12 hours of Domestic Violence Training 
(1st two years)
bullet36 hours annually 
(after 1st year)

The ORC requires that new direct service workers complete 90 hours of Core training within their first year of employment.  

Ohio Child Welfare Training Program's five 
Caseworker Core modules:

100:  Child Protective Services - Legal Issues                           6 hours
101:  Family Centered Child Protective Services                       18 hours
102:  Case Planning and Family Centered Caseworker             30 hours
103:  Effects of Abuse/Neglect on Child Development              18 hours
104:  Separation, Placement and Reunification                         18 hours

Non-Core State Mandate
12 hours of Domestic Violence within the first two years of hire.

Ongoing Requirement
After the first year of hire workers are required to attend 36 hours of training each year thereafter.   These workshops should be ones that are identified by the Individual Training Needs Assessment.

 

Supervisor Training 
Requirements

(1st eighteen months)

(after 1st year)

 

The ORC requires that new direct service workers complete 72 hours of Core training within their 18 months of employment as a supervisor.  

Ohio Child Welfare Training Program's five 
Caseworker Core modules:

501:  Managing Within a Child and Family Serving System        18 hours
502:  Managing Work Through Other People                             18 hours
503:  Transfer of Learning                                                        18 hours
504:  Supervising and Managing Group Performance              18 hours

Ongoing Requirement

After the first year of hire supervisors are required to attend 3 hours of training each year thereafter.   These workshops should be ones that are identified by the Individual Training Needs Assessment.
